The Pittsburgh Children's Museum
The Children's Museum in Pittsburgh is a great place to take kids for a few hours or the whole day. There are many different environments for kids to explore, geared toward various interests and age groups. There is a nursery area with soft seating and toys for young children. For older kids, there are a lot of activities to pick from: play with pipes and boats in the water room, a recreation of Mister Rogers' neighborhood from the Pittsburgh-based TV show, a building and machines room, a working art studio, and a room with costumes and toys for imaginative play. There museum also offers a small outdoor playground, a cafeteria for lunch and snacks, a theater with performances, and rotating art exhibits designed for children. Almost every day there is also a calendar of special events, including shows and classes that will take place throughout the day. The museum, located in Pittsburgh's North Side neighborhood, is easily accessible by car or bus (54C). It is open almost every day of the year. Unfortunately it is moderately expensive, but if you live in the area, an annual family membership can make frequent visits very affordable. The museum is also right next to a reasonably large park, which is convenient if you want to bring a picnic or make a day of your trip to the North Side. |
